Modern Kintsugi

Duration: 1 Day (4hrs)

Format: 1hr Lecture, 3hr workshop

Workshop: Repair pre-approved piece(s) using epoxy resin before coating it in e-urushi and brass

Kintsugi: The Start

Duration: 2hr

Format: Kintsugi's historical, cultural, environmental context and a longer workshop

Workshop: Experience the first step of a traditional repair of a (provided) broken, chipped and/or cracked item and take it home with you. Materials, tools, and a notebook provided.

Kintsugi: The Finish

Duration: 1hr

Format: Kintsugi's historical, cultural, environmental context and a short workshop

Workshop: Experience the last step of kintsugi repair with red urushi and a metallic finish and take home your "repaired" ware. This would be a prepared piece that wasn’t actually broken and has had a fracture painted on with Urushi.

Kintsugi: Full Traditional Experience

Duration: 8-9 weeks (1 day a week)

Format: Full day’s workshop, once a week

Workshop: Attendees would repair up to 3 piece(s) of their own (pre-approved) using fully traditional methods over the course of the experience, taking them through each stage of the repair.

Kintsugi: Traditional Speedrun

Duration: 2 Days

Format: 1hr Lecture, 4-5hr workshop

Workshop: Attendees would repair a series of pre-prepared pieces (a simple plate probably) to allow them to experience the full process of a traditional kintsugi repair. Each stage would be set up in advance by Dave Jones to avoid constraints around curing times and they could leave with a finished item. Materials, tools, and a notebook provided.

Format: Bi-weekly drop-in sessions

Workshop: Attendees can bring along their own projects to repair using modern, traditional, or a combination of both with my guidance.
