Who is Kintsugi Jones?

I’m a restorer specialising in ceramic repairs using a Japanese technique called Kintsugi. I’ve been practicing Kintsugi since 2020, repairing found pieces to hone my skills and taking on commissions for clients across the globe. As Kintsugi is a Japanese craft, I am one of a small number of practitioners in the UK and Scotland. In 2025 I travelled to Japan to complete an apprenticeship with a specialist Kintsugi studio to become the UK’s first accredited practitioner of fully traditional kintsugi.

Background

I have a background in history, heritage, material and material culture, having completed a Degree in Classical Civilisation at the University of Glasgow. Whilst studying there I worked with a Curator of the University’s Museum as a Student Curator and gained a great deal of experience in object handling.

Alongside my interest in Japanese culture, this led me naturally to pursue the practice of Kintsugi. I enjoy expanding my skills and experience with every unique piece that I work on.

Qualification

With my background in heritage I was acutely aware of the care required throughout a restoration. This informed my learning during my early years of self-guided study and led to a successful application to the POJ Kintsugi Apprenticeship Programme in Kyoto, Japan. This two month programme allowed me to build upon my own learning and provided me with skills and knowledge unavailable in the UK as I learned traditional kintsugi techniques as well as related skills like Maki-e and Raden work in the birthplace of Kintsugi.
